Drone at an event
Drone footage of your event
An open day, a club party, a street market or a company event: from the air, one image shows how many people came and how the grounds looked. That is the shot that convinces your sponsors and your visitors next year.
What is and is not allowed with a crowd
- Flying over a gathering of people is not allowed, not even with a light aircraft. What does work: filming from the edge, going higher so the grounds are in frame without me hovering above anyone, and filming before or after the busiest moments.
- The build-up and the empty site often give the best footage. An hour before the doors open everything looks its best and there is nobody to avoid. After that I fly another set with the crowd in, from the side.
- With a large crowd, clearance from the municipality or the aviation authority is sometimes required. That costs time, not money. So tell me a few weeks in advance rather than on the day.
- I account for whatever else is in the air. Above a site with a bouncy castle, a crane or fireworks I do not simply fly. Safety comes before the shot, always.
What it gets asked for
Open day or trade fair
Show how big your site is and how many people turned up. That convinces more than a paragraph next year.
Club party
A sports club or youth movement with real footage of the grounds lands sponsors more easily.
Company event
A staff party or an opening: a short film from above works well on your site and on LinkedIn.
What it costs
An event starts from 120 euros for a one to two hour slot with edited photos and a short cut video. If you want me there all day or covering several moments, it runs up to around 200 euros. If your event needs clearance I charge nothing extra for that, it simply needs more lead time.
Frequently asked questions
Can you fly over the crowd?
No. I film from the edge or from higher up, so the grounds and the crowd are in frame without me hovering over anyone. In practice that gives the more usable image anyway, because straight above a crowd you mostly see the tops of heads.
How far in advance should I book?
For an ordinary site, two weeks is enough. If your location sits in controlled airspace or a big crowd is expected, allow three to four weeks, because a request has to go through.
What if it is windy on the day?
Then I do not fly. With a lot of people around there is no reason to take a risk. We agree in advance what happens then: usually I shift to a quieter moment on the same day.
Do I get the footage the same day?
A rough selection can be ready the same day or the next, handy if you want to post straight away. The edited set and the cut video follow two to three working days later.
Do you run events regularly?
A business that puts something on regularly needs a site where that lives. I build it and deliver the footage to go with it.
